INTRODUCTON

This Study, conducted for the Chemical Manufacturers Association and the American Petroleum Institute, was designed to evaluate the fertility and reproductive performance of female rats when administered benzene by inhalation at dose levels of 1, 10, 30 and 300 ppm. Test substance was administered 6 hours per day, 5 days a week for 10 consecutive weeks prior to mating. Treatment of females continued for 5 hours per day, 7 days a week during the ensuing gestation (Day 0-20) and lactation periods (Days 5-21).

Species and strain of test animal, dose levels and route of test substance administration were established by the sponsors. Testing was conducted at Bio/dynamics, Inc., Mettlers Road, East Millstone, New Jersey 08873. Raw data will be stored in the archives of Bio/dynamics, Inc.
